Pay, explained

How I'm paid (and why it costs you nothing)

It's a fair question: if working with me is free, how do I make a living? Here's the honest answer.

Quick answer

Working with me is free. If you sign up for a plan through me, the carrier sends me a commission, and your premium is the same one you'd see buying on your own. If the best answer for you is a plan I don't get paid on, like staying on your work plan, I'll still tell you.

Where the money comes from

Insurance carriers pay licensed agents to find, enroll and look after their members. That pay comes from the carrier, not from you. Carriers build it into the plan's price whether or not you use an agent, so it's never added on top as a fee, and you'd pay the same price for the same plan without me.

Why that matters to you

Because I'm not charging you, you can ask me anything, compare as many options as you want, and walk away if none of them fit. There's nothing to sign and no cost to finding out.

The honest part

Some plans pay me more than others, and some of the best answers for you pay me nothing. If you're better off keeping your work plan, or your income gets you a big Marketplace subsidy, that's what I'll tell you. I show you the numbers side by side and explain why one wins, so you never have to take my word for it.

My bet is simple: if I give people the straight answer, they come back when things change and send their friends.

Questions I get

Is there a fee to work with you?+

No. I don't charge fees. If you enroll in a plan through me, the insurance carrier pays me.

Is my premium higher because I went through you?+

No. The plan costs the same whether you buy it from the carrier, on the Marketplace, or through me. Carriers build agent pay into the plan's price whether or not you use an agent, so you pay the same either way.

Does that change what you recommend?+

Yes, commissions vary by carrier and plan, and some options, like staying on your work plan, pay me nothing. That's why I show you the comparison and the reasons, so you can check my thinking.
